Making Contact
I was contacted via email by the client who had heard my ‘award winning’ audible advert for the Handmaid’s Tale just indulge me.
He had heard my work via one of the voiceover profile websites I am on ( he couldn’t remember which ) and wanted a quote for a video to announce his company’s sponsorship of a football team. The company is Aeroset a leading provider of engine parts and services for commercial airlines. They had thought about using a native voiceover and an American one, however, decided to go with a British voice. Of course I was thrilled.
Communicating
We arrange to speak, so I could get a clearer idea of the brief. I was dealing directly with the client – not an agency acting on his behalf and he had a very specific tone he wanted to achieve. The client was in Portugal at the time and explained how he had reached the decision to use a British voice and how this win that he was advertising for his business was a big deal. He had achieved a life long dream to be able to sponsor his favourite football team, the third biggest in Argentina Racing Club
The passion that came across as he explained what he wanted was contagious and we worked together remotely, using what’s app. In the past, I’ve had some contact with clients using this but have stayed away from it, as there is already a lot of traffic on my what’s app. However on this occasion so useful. Due to the client’s busy work schedule, he would respond to me with voice notes sharing advice on the pronunciation of certain words which was brilliant.
Fast Turnaround
The result was the job was recorded, invoiced and paid for within three days of our first making contact. Every voiceover job is different due to the number of people involved and I am always prepared for that. This can mean pickups, changes in the script, a decision to go faster or slower. All of these things are expected and part of the job. Using what’s app we were able to get the right take really quickly – as using voice notes once again the client was able to explain which bits he wanted quicker or slower.
Yes, of course, this would all be manageable during a live session, however, if that isn’t possible – it’s good to know another effective way of working.
Working with a voiceover, even if they are in a different country and on a different time zone should be easy and straight forward for you.
It should be painless and that is what you will always get working with me.
