Off on holiday tomorrow, am I beach body ready… god no!

It’s will a sigh of relief I read the news today that Debenhams are vowing to ditch airbrushing their models. Along with the H&M who has been applauded in its decision to use Jenny Runk, a ‘plus size’ model in its new beachwear campaign. Jenny  has been speaking out about how she wishes we’d stop obsessing about size, and she’s been using the spike in her facebook followers as a way to encourage others to love their bodies.

As a curvy lady myself I feel obliged to share a little more than normal. Having always struggled with my size, I read these positive articles and like to retweet to spread the word. BUT it doesn’t change one fact though. I’m about to go on holiday for a week and I absolutely dread wearing beachwear. Now, this year, I’ve bought myself a really lovely one piece which is a first in a long time and I feel OK in it.I also followed Liz Hurley’s advice (well one bit of it) and bought several ‘kaftans’ to cover up. I will however, still wear a bikini as I want to get a good tan but I KNOW I’ll spend most of the time wearing it secretly giving myself a hard time about why I didn’t do more to get in better shape ahead of my holiday. I don’t enjoy getting my kit off at the best of times, and on the beach I spend too much time eyeing up women with better bodies, thinking how unfair it is that they like like they do and I look like I do.I know this is wrong, and I should be happy with what I’ve got. I also know I’m not alone in doing this. Why do we then, it’s such a shame and a waste of energy.

This comes from someone who is married to a personal trainer, who is extremly supportive when it comes to helping me with my fitness and nutrition. I’m a member of a gym, I ride a bike plus I don’t work 9-5, so have time in my day to exercise.

Which I do, but not enough. I’ve not yet got the body I want but you know what –  the way I get round  the neagitive thoughts is to tell myself is that I WILL.

I am a work in progress. I know what to do to get in shape – it takes a lot of time and dedication. I have been in good shape before, it took blood, sweat and tears!

For the past 3 months I have been using a tool called www.mymaxme.net which involved filling in a profile about myself and as a result  I was sent a guide about my personality and have had to listen to snippets of daily audio, to help change my behaviour.

If like me you struggle to believe you can get results with your shape then maybe consider trying a method like this. It’s fascinating to see what effect it has one you. I’ve know changed certain habits but there’s still more to be done.

Unfortunately, whilst we live in a celebrity obsessed world, when pictures of the cast of reality tv shows with their tiny bodies in even smaller bikinis are EVERYWHERE, often the articles about real women are buried.

So it’s down to each and everyone of us to believe that we can love ourselves however many lumps and bumps we have and that we can get results if we make it a priority. I’m intending to take my own advice this holiday and love myself in my leopard print cossie and just relax with a darn good book!

Have a read about the articles I mentioned here:
