Turning 40 and being happy about it…

I’ll be honest, I was dreading this birthday.. I remember being a kid when my Dad had a 40th at our house. My Mum surprised him with all his pals dressing up as him ( picture a mix Buddy Holly & Groucho Marks ) I remember thinking how old they all were and noisy as I was banished to my bedroom. My 40th was a much more subtle affair, however I’d put in a request for a cake and my Ma and sister in law didn’t disappoint with this chocolate cake filled with peanut butter cream and salted caramel. The cans had jaffa cakes inside – genius idea from my Ma, I tell you.

My new decade has been accompanied with a new lease of life in my voiceover career. I’ve chosen to step of the airwaves from my live radio work and focus entirely on voicing and podcasting. I spent my Friday night at Zierferblat in Tomorrow, in Media City with Rachel Naylor’s The Voiceover Network. Rachel had organised a character workshop for the weekend and for Friday’s ‘entertainment’ Guy Michaels was speaking about ‘Self Direction’.

Having not had any acting training, I’ve always felt a bit inferior about my offering and have been getting more and more training over time, working with vocal coach Nic Redman to bring me out of myself and after Guy’s brilliant tips  – I’ve signed up for an acting class. I’ve had enough of my self doubt, I know I offer a good service and it can only improve, so I’ll be sharing my next steps.

My other passion is producing audio content for my podcast and finding unique ways to share and I love audiograms, so if you’re feeling a little down as we all can do at times, just click below as my son Phoenix has a giggle I defy you not to smile at x
